A $25,000 grant was presented to the Boulder Crest Retreat in Bluemont, VA. The grant will fund the construction of a therapeutic fishing pier at the new retreat being built for veterans seeking physical, mental and spiritual recovery from the wounds of war. Read more

A donation to the Rocky Mountain Hyperbaric Association for Brain Injuries (RMHABI) will provide urgent counseling and hyperbaric treatment services to severely wounded veterans of the War on Terror. The grant will fund the provision of psychological counseling to brain-injured veterans suffering from traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post-traumatic stress (PTS) disorder.

The project is being orchestrated by the National Association of Concerned Veterans (NACV) in response to a major initiative by District of Columbia Mayor Vincent Gray, the DC Office of Veterans Affairs and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to end homelessness for District veterans by the year 2015. High School Volunteers, American Legion Help CSAH Distribute Thanksgiving Gift Checks.
Two high school students from Keller, Texas joined forces with The American Legion to help the CSAH complete its annual Thanksgiving Thank You Meal gift check program for severely wounded Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) veterans.
Karlei Summerford and Taylor Lovera, seniors at Keller High School, volunteered to help the Legion distribute nearly $180,000 in gift checks the CSAH had raised this year for wounded OEF/OIF veterans around the country – nearly 3,000 in all – so they could be assured of sharing a Thanksgiving meal with their loved ones. Field Reps Honor Veterans Day
Coalition national spokesmen, Jorge DeLeon, Jim Kokas, and Donny Daughenbaugh, observed the 2012 Veterans Day by representing the thousands of service members around the country who were severely wounded in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom in the variety of celebrations organized by their local communities.
DeLeon, a former sergeant in the Army, addressed students, parents, school and local officials and guests during the Veterans Day ceremonies at Canyon High School in Comal, TX. Kokas, a retired Army medic, was one of the key organizers of the annual “Welcome Home” Veterans Day celebration sponsored by the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Long Beach (CA) Medical Center. Meanwhile, retired USMC Sgt. Donny Daughenbaugh was an honored guest of Mayor Annise D. Parker for the City of Houston’s annual “Salute American Heroes” celebration.
Coalition Supports New Zealand’s Tribute to U.S. Veterans Organizations
The Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes co-hosted the New Zealand Embassy’s third annual Veterans Day tribute to America’s armed forces held in Washington, DC on November 9th honoring the USO and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund for their long-standing support and contributions to U.S. military service members, veterans and their families. After months of organizing, recruiting and directing a small army of individuals and support organizations, the Coalition recently completed the distribution of 200,000 books donated by author James Patterson earlier this year to military bases around the country. With the installation of the set of ultra-comfortable La-Z-Boy recliners, the Soldier and Family Assistance Center at Fort Campbell, KY can now offer what many wounded warriors and their families may need most during their recovery – peace and quiet.
